Personal Description:

Hi, I’m Michael — a guitarist, composer, and music educator with over 12 years of playing experience. Music has always been at the heart of my life, and I love nothing more than helping others discover their own unique sound and creative potential.

I hold a Master’s degree in Music from the University of Edinburgh, where I was honoured with a composition award. Over the years, I’ve performed both as a solo artist and in a range of ensembles, developing a broad musical perspective that I bring into every lesson.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player, my goal is to help you connect with music in a way that feels natural, inspiring, and rewarding.

Tutoring Experience:

I’ve had the privilege of teaching music at a prestigious music college and at one of the top-performing secondary schools for music in the country. This diverse experience has allowed me to work with students of all ages and backgrounds.

I'm a teacher with enhanced DBS clearance, and I’ve supported learners from their first chords all the way through to advanced performance and songwriting.

My teaching draws from both formal methods and more intuitive approaches, allowing me to meet students where they are and help them grow in a way that suits their personal style.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in tailoring my teaching approach to each individual student. With my experience and understanding of teaching theory and methodology, I use this knowledge to create effective learning experiences. However, I adjust my methods to fit every student's unique needs and goals, ensuring that their learning process is as effective as possible.

I prefer to work with fewer students at a time, allowing me to provide high-quality, personalised instruction rather than spreading myself too thin. This approach also means that students often stay with me for longer periods, benefiting from sustained, focused tuition.

If I ever feel that I’m not the best fit for a student or that their needs might be better met elsewhere, I’m committed to referring them to my network of trusted tutors who can offer the support and guidance they need.
