Information About Melanie - Oakham teacher

Personal Description:

MELANIE LRAM(cello) has been a professional cellist since 1978. Melanie studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Florence Hooton and Derek Simpson where she gained both Performers and Teachers Diplomas. She has held orchestral positions at La Fenice (Venice, Italy), in Luciano Berio’s orchestra (Florence, Italy) and Rome Opera (Rome, Italy). In addition to her orchestral career, she has appeared as soloist with many orchestras. She and her husband have recorded and performed as “Duo Symmetry”. The duo has recorded three CD’s and appeared on **Contact Detail Removed**vision in Italy and the UK. Throughout her playing career, she has been an active teacher.

Tutoring Experience:

She has held teaching posts as Professor of violoncello at the Oderzo Conservatory (Italy), Harpenden Musicale (UK),
Hill House (London), and has taught at Oakham School in Rutland for the past 25 years. With her husband she coordinated two string programmes for the Schools of Rutland, which were highly successful. She is equally at home with beginners and advanced pupils, children through to adults. In addition, Melanie runs two cello ensembles based in Rutland for beginners to advanced pupils. Former pupils include; Guy Johnston (in his early years) who went on to become Young Musician of the Year and is now a professional soloist.

Tutoring Approach:

Currently offering online lessons in view of the Covid crisis.
I believe that every pupil should gain the most they can from each lesson experience and that as a teacher my job is to help them achieve their full potential. Lessons should be fun as well as informative. I encourage parents of younger pupils to share in the lesson experience, so that the child gains from parental support. My adult pupils are encouraged to further their skills both musically and technically through a mixture of repertoire, using both solo and duet material.
