Personal Description:
Hello! I am a friendly and accessible violin teacher who teaches using the Suzuki method. I have played the violin for over 20 years studying with various different teachers from classical and folk backgrounds.
Music, the violin and improvisation is a passion which has enabled me to express myself, meet and play with many different people spanning the divides of language and culture. I wish to share this passion with others and help you to find your own sound. I play many different styles including Classical, Celtic folk, Klezmer/Balkan and Jazz. I am happy to teach a mixture of styles and skills such as improvisation and composition as well as music reading and theory.
Tutoring Experience:
I am studying the Suzuki method with the British Suzuki institute which is adding to my previous experience since 2014. It is a very practical course with many great teaching techniques for both group and individual lessons.
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style is informal and focused on the student. I work with the student to understand their needs and learning styles. I teach beginner violin using the Suzuki method learning by ear to begin with through rhythm, singing and listening (you can theoretically begin this from age 3 and up)! The Suzuki Method also involves the parent or guardian being more involved (with young children especially) to create the right supportive environment for the student. Where possible group classes are a great way for students to learn from each other and practise the repertoire in a different environment.
