Personal Description:

My name is Maria **Removed By Admin**, I am a 33 year old composer, pianist, singer and music teacher originally from Romania.

I have been a full time piano teacher for over ten years, offering private tuition and working for schools in London UK and Los Angeles, CA, USA. I am currently active as an online-only piano teacher, composer, singer and pianist.

Tutoring Experience:

Private piano tutor since 2006 (*since 2020, I am only teaching online, on zoom)
Have successfully prepared students for grade exams up to grade 8 level, with many Distinction results across all levels.

Past experience:
2014-2020 - Senior Piano teacher and Aural Class group teacher at Cherry Pie Music, South Wimbledon, UK
2014-2015 Head Administrator and Piano teacher for First Musical Academy, (London, UK)
2006-2014 Private piano teacher
2005-2006 Piano and Music theory teacher at Hills Academy (Torrance, California, USA)

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to music tuition is simple: it is all about passion and fun!
I truly believe that everyone can benefit from the study of music.
That being said, I do have many ambitions students who are eager to get their grades, and go on achieving wonderful results in their ABRSM or Trinity exams. My students have also won Gold and Silver prizes at the Wimbledon International Piano Competition.

Since switching to online-only tuition, I have been organising online concerts for my students every three months or so. This helps motivate them towards achieving great results, as well as aquire performance experience.

I encourage all effort towards learning of music, from whichever angle that may be, and, as a teacher, I provide a strong technical base, and very specific tips on how to improve, practice techniques, etc. I always encourage my students to expand and seize their highest potential.

Creativity is what I base my lessons most on. Even though I teach from well established methods, my approach involves customising the lessons to my students desires and needs in order for them to develop as well rounded musicians.
Further down I will copy/paste two referral letters from the director of Hills Academy as well as one of my long term students in Los Angeles, California.

I look forward to working with you!

"My name is Jane Lee and I am the director of Hills Academy of Music and Art. Here at Hills Academy, we offer the very best environment and education for our students in the South Bay Area. In addition to a state of the art facility, we take pride in knowing that we only hire the very best educators. Not only are they musically qualified, but more importantly, their character is reputable, boasting of sincerity, honesty, and compassion.

Through a colleague, I received Ms. ’s contact information. After asking her for a recommendation for a music teacher, she did not hesitate before saying Maria’s name. She explained that she was an exquisite teacher, composer, and person.

I did, indeed hire Ms. and it was one of the best decisions I made as the director here. Through her passionate personality, alongside her experienced teaching methods, students became very attached to her and thrived musically under her care. She had students from the ages of 5 to 80 years old. Ms. knew exactly how to deal with each individual effectively to bring the very best out in each person. It was a very sad day when we were notified that she would no longer be with us because of her move.

If anybody has the opportunity to study under Ms. , it will be a privilege for them. You will learn. You will grow. You will enjoy the experience. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me directly."

"Maria gave piano lessons to both my son and me for about 3 years. My son (age 8-10) had been playing for two years before starting lessons with Maria, and I have been playing for over thirty years. Maria is, in a word, the best. Both her musical skills and her ability to communicate with her students are exceptional. From a musical perspective, she emphasizes both technique and interpretation, and teaches both equally well. As an active musician and composer when she isn’t teaching piano lessons, Maria’s passion for music is always visible. Her own musical intuition is extraordinary and she is able to convey that to her students in the way she talks about and explains pieces they are working on. She is particularly skilled at solving problems of technique that come up when a student is learning a piece, and having a hard time mastering a particular passage or section of the piece. Maria treats every student as if she believes that the student has the ability to become an outstanding musician. Rather than working on a piece for a short while and then saying, ‘Good enough’, and moving on to the next piece (as many teachers do), Maria insists that her students get the most they possibly can out of each piece, and they learn to play each piece to the maximum depth of their ability. Yet she is able to do this in a way that is fun for her students, without making them feel that they are being pushed too hard.
On a personal level, in her relationships with her students, Maria is also exceptional. She comes to every lesson full of enthusiasm and positive energy. During the three years she was teaching my son and me, there wasn’t a single time she came to our house with anything less than the best possible attitude and determination to give the best lessons she could … even though the lessons were often at night after she had already taught a full day of lessons. She teaches her lessons always with joy, happiness and laughter, yet always without detracting from the serious purpose of learning to play the piano."
