Margot offers a FREE first / introductory lesson!
I am a passionate musician who has recently moved from Cornwall. I have three children. I enjoy watching people (both adults and children) discover that they can produce music. I started learning both piano and recorder as a child. I passed grade 8 in both and also grade 8 music theory.
I have taught both within the school system as a classroom music teacher (and assistant head of year) and as a private instrumental teacher. I have put students through their exams with pleasurable success. I have also experience teaching adult beginners with the challenges that learning a new skill later in life brings.
I believe in allowing the student to discover a passion for music. I like to use real music as soon as possible and have regular informal 'concerts' to develop performance skills and a personal repertoire. I also believe in linking the learning of theory to the practical skills so that a students ability is enhanced by their musical knowledge. Therefore my students also take theory exams appropriate to their level not the grade 5 alone. I build the skills of sight-reading and aural through regular practise and not just prior to examinations.
