Personal Description:
I have performed and studied Music for fifteen years and been teaching for seven.
In 2012 I completed a degree in Music at the University of Leeds, graduating with 2:1 honours and specialising in Performance, Composition & Pedagogy. As of 2016 I am studying a Masters in Music In Development at SOAS.
I have also been awarded:
- Grade 8 (Distinction) in Guitar (London College of Music)
- Grade 5 Music Theory (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music)
I have performed professionally as a soloist and in ensembles spanning a range of styles, including:
- Jazz, Soul & Funk
- Rock, Pop & Metal
- Traditional Folk & Indie
- Latin, Afro-Cuban & Afro‐Columbian
I have toured at a national level at nightclubs, music venues, arts spaces, bars and private functions.
I also teach Bass Guitar, have sung in a variety of choirs and have played drums for 15 years.
Tutoring Experience:
Whilst studying at Leeds for University I taught a wide range of students in and around the city across a range of different styles, tailoring my teaching methods to meet the needs of individual students. Whether you wish to progress through the grade system or explore different styles and influences to develop as a musician I am here to help.
Once graduating I taught for the Yorkshire Music Education Service for three years, teaching guitar and bass guitar at their music centres and in primary and secondary schools in Leeds. I also ran workshops on blues and improvisation for Art Forms at their guitar and bass event 'Fret Fest'.
Additionally, I have led workshops at the University in my role as the President of the Jazz & Blues society. I taught a series of workshops for the band and society members covering sight reading, phrasing, harmony, ear training and improvisation.
I also volunteered weekly at a community arts project named MAP (Music and Art Production), where I bring first-class tuition to young students from a range of backgrounds that might not otherwise have access to such opportunities.
Tutoring Approach:
I favour a patient, friendly and flexible approach, individually tailored to students’ needs. I like to have a consultation with the student to see what they want to achieve using realistic short, medium and long term achievable goals to create a tangible sense of progression and development for the student.
I am always more than happy to consider any special requests, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can discuss an approach that best suits your needs.
