Personal Description:

My name is Marcel, a musician and enthusiastic teacher specializing in piano and keyboard instruments, Music Theory, Music Production and Music Technology.

Passing on my love and enthusiasm for music is something that I love to do and have been doing for the last several years.

Although classically trained, I have performance experience in a wide variety of styles - so whether you are looking to work towards classical grades, learn the chords to your favourite pop or jazz ballad, or even learn how to improvise; it would be a pleasure assisting you on your journey.

I have a Bachelor of Music degree in performance, as well as a Master of Music in Composition.
As well as being a music educator I’m also an active pianist and composer, composing for various theatre, film, dance, multi-media projects.

Tutoring Experience:

For the last several years I have been teaching music privately. From Western Classical, Jazz improvisation to Music Theory and Music Technology & Production. Students of mine range from complete beginners to advanced. I currently work with students ranging from the age of 5 to the age of 80+.

I’ve prepared students for ABRSM/Trinity and Rockschool examinations. Helped those who wanted to increase their knowledge in Music Theory, Music Technology and Music Production to prepare for GCSE or Access courses. Alternatively, some of my students don’t wish to work towards any particular goal and just want to learn for pure enjoyment. No prior knowledge or experience of music is needed and everyone is welcome!

Having worked in several schools with pupils from a wide variety of backgrounds and working in SEN settings I have gained the experience to deliver engaging and well thought out lessons to a range of ages or abilities. I have worked in schools teaching individually and in small group settings. As a result I also have a current DBS check.

Whether you’re a complete beginner, someone who used to play when they were younger, a producer of music who’d like to brush up on their music theory or keyboard skills, or someone who is currently at a stage in their life where you’d like to learn a new skill with a fun and patient teacher, I can help.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm a dedicated and passionate teacher with a thorough approach, always getting the best out of my students. I adapt to new students with ease, teaching in a relaxed, supportive and friendly way. The aim is to always have a well structured, enjoyable music lesson.

The most important objective of a lesson is that they are fun, engaging, and rewarding. I have an individualized approach that focuses on each student's strengths and areas for improvement in a highly supportive and encouraging environment.

My approach to teaching is flexible and I'm very happy to tailor to my student’s needs. I will happily stick to an exam board syllabus, avoid this entirely, or offer some combination of both – whatever suits!

At the end of each lesson (If they are happy with this) students are given weekly assignments for them to work on during the week.

Lessons can include ear training, improvisation, sight reading, learning pieces, Music Theory, musicianship and exam preparation.
