Personal Description:

My name is Lynn and I am a Canadian flutist and music educator who now resides in the Exeter area. I hold Bachelor of Music Education and a Master of Music in Flute Performance and Woodwind Pedagogy.

Tutoring Experience:

My long past teaching focused mainly on flute instruction in my private studio and at several universities. My most recent employed teaching, at The American School of Budapest and The Jakarta International School, has included directing full wind band and string ensembles, chamber ensembles, very high level musical theatre performances, IB Music, music technology and general music classes for ages 11 through 14. Finding myself in Exeter and London, I am gravitating much more towards the pleasures of working with students privately.

Tutoring Approach:

I work from the idea that enjoyment comes with success. I love to figure out how a student learns the best and focus on breaking down musical challenges to small digestible bits. When a task is not overwhelming then learning can happen.
From my teacher, I was inspired to become passionate about music and excellence. He helped me to discover the music within the music. My teaching focuses on musicality and finding that hidden musical expression. I believe that many students need help in how to find the real music and in how far they need to go to produce a musically satisfying performance. Initially, they must be guided through the music in detail to a high level so that they know and understand what can be attained. Of course, technique is also at a very high level of importance in my teaching.
