Personal Description:
*Available to Teach Online*
My name is Lyle, and I am currently playing and working in Bristol. I have had a lot of experience doing teaching in various contexts, and I thoroughly enjoy it, being challenged with new ideas and perspectives, and being able to see growth in my students is an amazing thing.
I'm currently playing professionally in a jazz/hip-hop/neo-soul group, a pop band, a Contemporary Big Band and also writing, producing, and performing my own electronic jazz pop music under 'LYLE!'.
Tutoring Experience:
Having taken part in School Bands since I started playing at the age of 9, I have been part of many different musical experiences. This includes touring around Europe with School, and later University bands, as well as playing in competitions and many local gigs.I have since started playing in a professional context, with a focus on Contemporary Pop styles such as Funk and Soul, and with a personal interest in Jazz trumpet. As well as this, I have also taken lessons in Singing and Piano, which all comes together in the music I create under my psudonym 'LYLE!'.
I recently had the pleasure of playing Glastonbury Festival 2019, adding it to the list of many festivals I've been able to play.
Tutoring Approach:
I am a strong believer in helping students develop their skills to the goal of giving them their own voice to make the music they want to make, and using their passion and interests in music as the foundation for their musical development, whatever styles or genres they may enjoy. I believe that once a student has the tools to begin creating their own music, alone or with others, then the learning can really soar. Reading sheet music can be an important part of this process, as I have learnt through my professional career, but it is optional.
I am also very comfortable teaching for grade exams.
