Personal Description:

I am passionate about playing the piano and love the freedom to express myself through music. I have been playing the piano since the age of six and also play the clarinet and saxophone. I'm a classically trained musician and have a Diploma in Piano Teaching from the ABRSM. The styles of music I enjoy playing are varied and include classical, jazz and pop music. I love the challenge of a new piece of music and also really enjoy creating my own arrangements of contemporary songs, as well as composing original music for the piano and woodwind instruments for my students to play.
I have previously been the accompanist for Stone Choral Society and have played in a variety of different musical ensembles, including wind orchestras, an Irish band and a saxophone duo!

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching piano since 2010 and my aim in every lesson is to inspire and motivate students to achieve their potential. Perhaps you are new to the piano or are returning after a break - all lessons are tailored to suit the requirements of individual students. Whether you are hoping to learn a new skill, to play for relaxation or to take up the challenge of performance exams, I would be delighted to help you achieve your goals. All students entered for ABRSM or Trinity exams have achieved at least a pass, with many achieving merits and distinctions.
I love working with students of all ages and abilities. The youngest students come to me from the age of 5 years old. There is no upper age limit - I have taught adults in their 70s: enthusiasm and a passion for learning are the most important factors in learning the piano.

Tutoring Approach:

Your progress and enjoyment in learning the piano is key to every lesson! I aim to make lessons fun whilst also giving students the opportunity to make as much progress as possible. I am a creative and empathetic teacher, enthusiastic about learning whilst also having huge amounts of patience!
You will learn piano technique and music theory in every lesson, taught through the pieces of music that interest and inspire you. Children's lessons include fun musical games and music theory delivered in an interesting and engaging way.

Lessons take place in your own home on a weekly or fortnightly basis and are £20 for half an hour or £40 for an hour. I travel to you so you can save time and fuel costs, plus you're more likely to feel at ease in your own environment.
I recommend that all beginners start off with half hourly lessons as there is a lot to take in when you start learning!
To make sure that you're happy to go ahead, I'll always come to you for a 20-30 minute chat for your first lesson (which is why the first 'lesson' is free).
