Personal Description:

Multi-instrumentalist: Piano & Guitar. My name is Luke, I was born and raised in Scotland and I currently live in Edinburgh working full-time as a music tutor and performing musician. I left high school with the determination to pursue the arts leading me to study a BA in Popular Music at Edinburgh Napier University. At Napier I was able to hone my craft as a musician, composing, performing, improvising and training on the piano and guitar. This is where my career as a self-employed arts professional began to take shape.

At present, I have a busy week as a private music tutor, working from home and at Lamp House Music school. I also work with three live performance agencies, WooHoo, Banana Row and Music For Scotland. They send me bookings for performances at weddings, parties, corporate and private events.

I am continually writing and developing material for my show - combination of magic and music mixed in with comedy - to be performed each year as a part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I also have my own creative musical outlets working on material in the jazz and popular music world. This has led to performances at the Jazz Bar in Edinburgh, a tour of the UK and performances in jazz festivals.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching music for a few years and it has become my profession in the last year or so. I truly enjoy the challenge of creating engaging content for anyone interested in playing music. I love to instil a sense of passion and respect for the craft in people. I have taught many complete beginners at 6, to teenager wanting to emulate their favourite bands, to young adults trying to get into College and to pensioners looking to start discovering an instrument later in life. I have spent many hours and hundreds of pounds in music shops collecting various materials and books to assemble my own library of content to share with my students. I have worked tirelessly with the following organisations in the past and continue to work with some of them to this day alongside my own private tuition from home.

Lamp House Music - Music School
Most Entertaining - Private Student Agency
Carrickvale Community Centre - Group Keyboard Classes
Rock & Pop School Scotland - Music School
Big Hearts - Hearts Football Club Summer Music Program
Windsor Mountain International Summer Camp - US Summer Camp

Tutoring Approach:

Jazz and popular music is my speciality, however I was classically trained via the ABRSM and Trinity College London grades. I value good technique and understanding of music theory, I value creativity and passion for music and I also understand each individual person has there own desires and reasons for playing music hence why I have spent countless hours researching methods, spending hundreds of pounds of music book so I am fully equipped to tailor the lesson to the students aims allowing them to love playing music while still getting a grounding in the fundamentals.
