Personal Description:
I am currently undertaking research into music and theology, alongside my professional career as teacher, instrumentalist, and conductor. I studied (and am still studying!) at the University of Cambridge, and at the Royal Academy of Music throughout my teenage years. I have been playing bassoon and organ professionally for several years, and have broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and Canadian National Radio as a bassoonist, organist, and conductor. I am in demand as a freelance instrumentalist, conductor, and academic tutor, alongside my posts as Director of Chapel Music & Organist at St Edmund's College, Cambridge, and Assisting Organist at Downing College, Cambridge.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching privately since 2006, and I also have several years' experience of school-teaching (secondary). I am experienced in giving workshops (singing, conducting, performance technique, chamber music etc.). I supervise undergraduates at Cambridge University as well as undertaking Faculty teaching, and I hold a Deputy Professorship at the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. I also tutor for the Royal College of Organists. I have experience of preparing students for university and conservatoire interviews and auditions, and I also regularly undertake outreach work in schools, care homes, and elsewhere.
Tutoring Approach:
I always strive to inspire my tutees with the confidence to push themselves to achieve their full potential, while being aware that outside the lessons they also have other commitments. I am experienced in teaching students with learning difficulties and am happy to be flexible in my teaching style depending on the needs of the individual student.
