Personal Description:
UPDATE: ONLINE LESSONS NOW AVAILABLE
Experienced and enthusiastic tutor of clarinet and saxophone teaching both children and adults in South London. I hold an ABRSM Clarinet Performance Diploma (Distinction), and with 30+ years' playing experience, I perform regularly across London and the South East on clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophone.
Students of all ages and levels are welcome, from complete beginners to more experienced players wishing to improve their technique. Adult returners/beginners are a speciality - perhaps you're taking up music in later life or returning to your instrument after a long break. Either way, I'd be delighted to help.
Tutoring Experience:
I have several years' experience teaching both children and adults across London, from complete beginners to advanced students up to Grade 8 level. I prepare students for ABRSM/Trinity graded examinations if desired, with a 100% pass rate - all my students who entered ABRSM exams last year passed with either merit or distinction - and have also prepared several young students for music scholarship auditions.
Tutoring Approach:
My lessons are tailored for the individual, ensuring you can reach whatever musical goals you may have, both short and long term. That might be the more formal route through graded exams, improving enough to join a band or orchestra, or simply playing for fun – or maybe a bit of everything. I prepare students for ABRSM/Trinity exams if required, but while they can be an excellent benchmark and a structured goal to work towards, they're by no means a compulsory part of music education and there's no pressure to take exams if you don't want to.
I teach technical ability and musicality (including notation, aural (listening) skills, sight reading and music theory) primarily through repertoire, using music from a wide variety of composers, periods and styles to accomplish this. Students are then able to overcome technical challenges, improve their proficiency on the instruments and become well-rounded musicians while also having fun with the music - people learn so much better when they're enjoying the pieces they play!
All ages are welcome - I currently have students from aged 8 to 80 - and all levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced. Please note though, young children should preferably have their adult front teeth before beginning!

My daughter is quite shy and she finds opening up (particularly to adults) very difficult. Lisa is the first teacher that my daughter has really enjoyed learning with!
