Personal Description:

I have been teaching for over 30 years and am experienced from beginner to diploma, child to adult, from age 4 to 80!.

My main instruments are Violin and viola but am happy to teach music theory and beginner piano.

Full enhanced DBS certificate held.

Tutoring Experience:

Private schools, state schools, private teaching. I now only do private teaching. Also done ensemble training… string orchestra and quartet and also performing.
Very high standard for ABRSM exams, many distinctions… no fails.
Taught by Diana Cummings and use her methods and ideas still.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to violin/viola teaching is to teach every pupil to the best of their ability. This means every pupil will gain the very best technique they can achieve so enabling the pupil to be able to express themselves musically.
I only do exams if the pupil wants to and most of my pupils only do a small number of exams, e.g grades 1, 5 and 8.
I am always thinking about my teaching, changing how I do things, different music and new exercises.
I try to make sure that students play with very good instruments.

Ensemble tuition and lots of duets and trios with me and other students…
