This is how 2 referees rated Liam:
Liam is a percussionist and drum kit player who lives in London. He plays a range of musical styles and instruments which has led him to work as a performer, teacher and workshop leader.
On Percussion Liam has worked with Orchestras such as the Mark Fitzgerald orchestra, invicta orchestra, Lambeth Wind orchestra, East London Brass; on musicals in London such as Fame and The Little shop of Horrors and with world music groups Conga Santiaguera, the Son Collective, LCM Bloco, uniao da mocidade and Paraiso School of Samba.
On Kit he has performed with artists such as Vivianne Viveur who he has recorded two albums with, the Glauco Alves Trio, Jack Slater, Benjamin Yellowitz, Raphael Roman, suffer no Fools, Jungle Leez, solenya and the LCM big band; on musicals such as Broardway and Beyond UK tour, 9-5, The Drowsy Chaperone, Just so and Spelling bee and worked with production companies such as clearer productions, Centre stage, Sedos, W5 Productions, Top’s, Willios and opera de la Luna
Liam has worked with the national citizen service to devise and deliver percussion workshops and train other practitioners in preparation for the program, the Arts Academy, Waltham Forest and Redbridge music services all of which he taught drum kit, percussion and lead samba and African drumming sessions. He now works at Lockers Park preparatory school where he teaches and devises the drum kit and percussion program and runs his own private tuition business from his home studio.
Liam's approach to teaching is understanding the students needs and desires from the lessons and planning accordingly to get the most out of the student and their lesson, whatever it is that might be. They might want to complete grades, and get into music college, or they might just want to try something new and exciting.
I believe hard work is key to development and progress, however it should be fun and rewarding… or there is no point doing it.
Liam is a very practical and realistic teacher who always looks forward and sees the whole picture, and therefore teaches in a very hands on and holistic way - getting the student to use as many senses as possible to learn and develop… rather than sticking music in front of them and telling them to play it until they get it right.
