Personal Description:

UPDATE: Until further notice all my teaching will be remote. Please only get in touch if you are interested in remote tuition. I have been teaching music lessons remotely for a few months now, and, although there are challenges involved, there are also many advantages and it has been working really well for me and all my students. Thanks :)

I'm passionate about playing, writing music, and sharing the process with others. I'm primarily a jazz pianist and composer/songwriter, but I also love playing the music of the great classical composers and various other musics from around the world.

Tutoring Experience:

I have a first-class honours bachelor's degree in Jazz Saxophone, and 10+ years of experience as a professional musician. I have performed in bands, and recorded as a session musician, at festivals, venues and studios across the country, including Ronnie Scott's and Abbey Road. Since graduation from university I have also been immersed in teaching, both privately, and in schools around the south-east. I play both piano and sax to grade 8+ standard. Additionally, I am a qualified professional teacher of English as a foreign language.

I hold an up-to-date enhanced child workforce DBS check.

Tutoring Approach:

In my lessons, you/your child will have the chance to:

- learn your/their favourite songs
- enter for graded music exams
- gain a robust technical foundation
- learn to read music
- learn how to apply dynamics and expression
- understand the theory of music and why it sounds the way it does
- write some original music

Don't panic if you don't yet know what your goals are - we can work it out together, so feel free to ask. I find that there is no single 'template' for learning an instrument because everyone has their own unique way of learning. Therefore my lessons are inevitably tailored to the individual - it wouldn't work any other way.

I look forward to meeting beginners to advanced students on both piano and saxophone, and additionally, learners of English as a second language.
