Personal Description:
Music has always been very mysterious to me. It has always fascinated me. How does it work? What makes a genre sound the way it does? How do all the musical elements combine to form a sound so much greater than the sum of its individual parts?
Ever since my uncle first handed me a guitar and showed me some chords, the guitar has always opened doors in my life as well as my mind. But it was in 2010, after I had taken a 6-month trip around the world with my guitar that I knew I wanted to try to make it more than just a hobby.
I spent the next 6 years studying classical, electric and acoustic guitar and taking a guitar teaching qualification. It was not long after my teaching certificate came through the door that I set off for Cuba with just a handful of Spanish. My mission: to find out what makes Latin America genres tick, develop the Open Sauce Guitar concept and website, and help others to get their fingers and ears around these intangible musical cultures.
Tutoring Experience:
I have a degree in Music Education and have taught students of all ages Guitar, Bass, Music Theory and Music Production in various countries, including the UK, Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia.
I have extensive performance experience internationally as a soloist, accompanist and band member.
Tutoring Approach:
Whether you're a beginner looking to take your first steps in learning guitar or an experienced guitarist looking to improve in particular areas, my approach is to build the lessons around your individual goals and interests.
I can teach you a range of styles on acoustic, electric and classical guitar.
My aim is to give you the tools you need to be able teach yourself by helping you hone the essential skills a musician needs: listening and reading skills, technical & improvisation skills, a varied rhythmic and harmonic palette, composition, audio workstation and recording literacy.
We can work towards an exam board syllabus such as Rockschool, ABRSM or Trinity. I produce tailor-made technical skill drills, sheet music and backing tracks which accurately simulate exam conditions so you know when you're ready to take the exam. If you'd like to perform your own choice of repertoire for exam pieces, sheet music and backing tracks can be created once the tracks have been authorised by the exam board.
I also work with songwriters who are looking to develop their songs and/or record demos. I can help with arrangement, creating rhythm section tracks, strings and keys, backing vocals, and mixing and mastering.
In our first session, we can discuss your goals and work out how we can go about achieving them, so get in touch to arrange a time.
I look forward to meeting you.
