Personal Description:
My name is Kenny and l teach guitar, bass guitar, ukulele and mandolin (Grades 1-8 and beyond). Whether you want to learn music as a relaxing hobby or you want to make it as a professional, I am the tutor for you! Lessons with me are personally tailored to you and what you want to learn. I have over fifteen years of teaching experience, in which time I have taught beginners from age 7 to 70. I am extremely proud to say that several of my students are now studying music at university or working as professionals.
Tutoring Experience:
I studied guitar at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (ranked Top 5 in the world) and graduated with an Honours Degree in performance. Since then music has taken me all over the world, from South Korea to the Caribbean. Most recently I have been performing for Disney Cruise Lines which has been an absolute dream! I love all things guitar and I love teaching and sharing my passion for music.
I have worked as a classroom teacher and as an ensemble leader but my favourite form of teaching is one-to-one as I like to make sure students are reaching their full potential.
Tutoring Approach:
I love getting to know my students and giving them the skills they need to play what they want to play. I believe in developing a solid foundation of technique and theory which I developed through my own classical training. I also believe that music should be enjoyed and that students should play the music that inspires them. Where appropriate I let students choose what songs/pieces they want to play and I arrange the music for them based on their ability level. At the end of the day practice is key and I expect students to work hard between lessons, there is no cutting corners when it comes to learning an instrument.
