Personal Description:

I am a Master of Music student studying at the Royal College of Music, London. I am the recipient of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Postgraduate Study Award 2016-17, the Drake Calleja Trust Scholar 2016-17 and the Royal College of Music Study Award 2016. I received a bachelor’s degree with first-class honours at the Royal College of Music, where I studied with Professor Katie Bedford and Professor Sue Thomas. I started learning the flute at the age of eight under the supervision of Matthew Wu. I was later awarded a scholarship from the Sir Robert Black Trust Fund Committee Grants and had also been elected as the Art Ambassador by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. I was a prize winner in the 2015/2016 Enkor International Music Competition (Chamber Music) in Germany, the 4th Hong Kong Students Open Music Competitions and the Hong Kong Flute Academy Concerto Competition. I am an active soloist and orchestral player, performing in the Regent Hall, St. Mary Abbots Parish Church, Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, Claremont Centre, HTB Onslow Square, Hong Kong City Hall and Hong Kong Cultural Centre. I perform regularly as the members of RCM Symphony Orchestra and RCM Philharmonic, and has worked with renowned conductors Sir Roger Norrington, Emmanuel Siffert and Michael Seal. I was also the principal flute in the UBS Orchestra, the Hong Kong Metropolitan Youth Orchestra and the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra. I am an active ensemble player and was a major flautist of Tutti Flutti in the Hong Kong Flute Academy. I worked as a concerto soloist with Tutti Flutti, playing Vivaldi’s Flute Concerto in D and Mozart’s Concerto in D. I had masterclasses with Katherine Bryan, Paul Edmund-Davies, Sharon Bezaly and Marina Piccinini.

I am also a keen pianist, under the mentorship of Professor Kathron Sturrock. I have attained DipABRSM in flute, LRSM(Performance) in piano, LTCL (Recital) in recorder and ABRSM Grade 8 Theory.

I can speak fluent English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught students ranged from complete beginners to advanced players, with the youngest student aged 4 and the most mature students aged 52. Besides being experienced in one-to-one private coaching, I am also experienced in teaching students in groups, from a small class of 3 students to a class of 10 students. I have been teaching instrumental classes in various high schools. Some of my students have taken the ABRSM Graded exams and received excellent result with distinctions. In addition, I have been invited to coach for various music events, for example, schools’ concerts and Christmas performances.

Tutoring Approach:

I strike a good balance between fundamental technique and repertoire. This is to ensure my students can play technically and musically well. Also, I aim to train my students with good musical theory and aural skills in order to provide a comprehensive music education.

I am happy to teach students at all levels and will tailor my classes to suit the needs of my students, to strengthen their weakness, to develop their strength and to maximize the potentials.
