Personal Description:

Recently awarded the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist of the Year 2018, I am the recipient of the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Postgraduate Study Award, the Drake Calleja Trust Scholarship, the Kathleen Trust Scholarship, the St Marylebone Educational Foundation Scholarship and the Royal College of Music Study Award 2016-2018. I was awarded the Alain-Marion Scholarship as the most understanding flautist at the Domaine Forget International Music Academy 2017 in Canada where I performed Ibert’s Flute Concerto at the Françoys-Bernier Concert Hall. I also won the scholarship to receive orchestral training at the Alion Baltic International Music Festival in Estonia. I made my London concerto debut in 2017 with the RCM Wind Ensemble, performing the world premiere of Leung’s alto-flute concerto Waiting.

I received a bachelor’s degree with first-class honours from the Royal College of Music, where I continued to study my Master of Music in Performance course with Katie Bedford and Sue Thomas, supported by a Leverhulme Arts Scholarship. After starting the flute under the supervision of Matthew Wu, I was later awarded a scholarship from the Sir Robert Black Trust Fund Committee Grants and was elected as the Art Ambassador by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. I was a prize winner in the III Alion Baltic International Music Competition in Estonia, **Telephone Number Removed** kor International Music Competition in Germany, North London Music Festival in the U.K… 4th Hong Kong Students Open Music Competitions and Hong Kong Flute Academy Concerto Competition.

As an active soloist and orchestral player, I have performed at the Barbican Centre, Southbank Centre, St John’s Smith Square, LSO St. Luke’s, London Coliseum, Regent Hall, and major performance venues in Hong Kong and Estonia including the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and Tallinn Town Hall. I have appeared on stage as a member of the English National Opera Orchestra, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra, London Firebird Orchestra and RCM orchestras; and have worked with renowned conductors Sir Roger Norrington, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Nicholas Collon and Martyn Brabbins. I was also the principal flute in the New Hong Kong Orchestra, UBS Orchestra and Metropolitan Youth Orchestra of Hong Kong. I worked as a concerto soloist with the Hong Kong Flute Academy, performing Vivaldi’s and Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D.

I am also a keen piccolo and baroque-flute player, under the mentorship of Kathleen Stevenson and Rachel Brown respectively. Future highlights include my debut at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester during the **Telephone Number Removed** season as part of the prestigious Manchester Mid-day Concerts Series, as well as a concerto performance with the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra in October.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught students ranged from complete beginners to advanced players, with the youngest student aged 4 and the most mature students aged 52. Besides being experienced in one-to-one private coaching, I am also experienced in teaching students in groups, from a small class of 3 students to a class of 10 students. I have been teaching instrumental classes in various high schools. Some of my students have taken the ABRSM Graded exams and received excellent result with distinctions. In addition, I have been invited to coach for various music events, for example, schools’ concerts and Christmas performances.

Tutoring Approach:

I strike a good balance between fundamental technique and repertoire. This is to ensure my students can play technically and musically well. Also, I aim to train my students with good musical theory and aural skills in order to provide a comprehensive music education.

I am happy to teach students at all levels and will tailor my classes to suit the needs of my students, to strengthen their weakness, to develop their strength and to maximize the potentials.
