Information About Katie - Manchester teacher
I'm currently in my second year at Manchester University, studying Music. My first passion has always been playing the French Horn, and I would love to pass on my enthusiasm and experience to learners! In my last two years at school I was principal French Horn in Hampshire Youth Orchestra, playing solos in pieces such as Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony and Shostakovich's 5th Symphony. I continue to perform extensively as part of my degree programme.
I spent my gap year working in the Music Department at Bedales School, Petersfield. It was a very rewarding experience - my job involved coaching a French Horn student and teaching Music Theory to small groups of students. Also, I have just arrived home from Canada, where I spent the summer teaching General Music and Basic Guitar to campers at Eaglearts Academy! A couple of kids even asked for French Horn lessons, so I taught them a few of the basics!
It is important to encourage students to recognise the importance of trying their best, because with an instrument like the French Horn it takes time and concerted effort to reach a good standard. It's hard at first, but if they keep motivated the end results are completely worth the work! My aim is to give enjoyable, productive lessons which can inspire students to appreciate lots of musical styles and to enjoy performing what they have learned to friends and family.
