I am a former student of Trinity College of Music in London where I undertook piano tuition and performance to the highest of standards, studying alongside musicians at the height of their career who perform all over the world. My former professors include, Penelope Roskell, Douglas Finch (former head at TCM) and Margaret Bolt.
I started playing piano at the age of 3 and took my first lessons aged 6. I initially learnt to play by ear and during my youth I was largely self-taught. In addition to teaching I have worked extensivley alongside singers, choirs, and other instrumentalists. I also enjoy composing and arranging.
I regularly enjoy taking part in music festivals and competitions. Recent local highlights include winner of the Challenge Cup in the 2017 Godalming Music Festival, the 2015 Farnham Piano Competition (receiving the Peckham memorial award and cash prize) and the Aldershot and Farnborough Piano Festival winner of 2008.
Having been teaching for nearly 10 years now, I have gained much experience in providing tuition to a range of age groups from as young as 3. During that time, I have grown even more dedicated in helping others learn, enjoy and develop their passion for music, whether they choose to learn for personal pleasure or even take it to the next level and pursue it professionally.
I have had also many succesful exam pass rates with students who wish to take grades, earning merits and distinctions. One of my students was recently awarded the most promising junior award from ABRSM adjudicator and pianist, Anthony Williams.
I have a very welcoming, friendly and professional approach to every pupil I teach. I tailor each lesson to the needs of the pupil and focus directly on specific issues that need to be addressed in a fun and engaging way, so he or she can come away with the feeling of satisfaction and achievement. I fully support all my pupils and encourage them to have a personal input into every lesson.
To provide my students with a firm backbone of good musical training, I always set out to ensure that the basic skills are in place and that the theory and aural side is touched upon and put into practise, making sure no bad habits work their way in.
A while back I created a **Contact Detail Removed** social group just for my students in order to help bring everyone together into share ideas and confidence. Myself and my students post regularly with positive encouragement and media feeds. I also create spotify playlists that my students follow which provides them with an insight into new styles of music.
I am currently offering a 50% discount on the first lesson and am happy to teach at either the pupils home or from my base in Surrey on my upright Yamaha U1 transacoustic piano.

Definitely recommended for anyone at all levels, I am only a beginner but will hopefully use him as I progress to higher levels.
Great teacher and really nice guy who makes learning fun :).
I would highly recommend.
Happy to have started with Karl, and looking to continue with him for our second child if possible.
I couldn't recommend Karl more highly. He is a very talented teacher with a great personality and very easy to get along with and learn from.
Although I am a complete beginner I feel that I am already getting the hang of things, and also feel I am being taught valuable technique that will make my playing better as I move forward.
The way Karl teaches is great - balancing theory out with practical exercises so it sticks in my head. He also helped me find the right piano to get for myself at home.
Would definitely recommend!
