Personal Description:
I have studied the violin since the age of six, graduating with a BMus (Hons) Undergraduate Degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2019 and Postgraduate Diploma in Instrumental Performance in 2020 after five years of study at the institution. During my time at the Conservatoire I studied under the senior violin tutor Nathaniel Vallois. As part of my degree I have been a member of various chamber music groups, taken part in numerous orchestral projects and performed solo recitals. Alongside this, academic modules have also contributed to a broader understanding of Music.
Tutoring Experience:
I now have over 3 years experience teaching privately and in school, in both one-to-one and group settings, working with all age ranges from child to adult learner and from beginner to post grade 8 level. Further to this, I’ve also helped out in projects and youth orchestras related to my local area, guiding and helping to support the young and less experienced among the students in order to boost their confidence in this field.
Tutoring Approach:
As for my teaching values, I firmly believe a child can only achieve their best with positive encouragment, in an inclusive/non-discriminatory environment. In terms of choosing repertoire for a student, I tailor teaching to the students needs, usually uses the ABRSM, Suzuki, Team Strings and the Young Violinist's Repertoire series. I make sure that students have complementary pieces alongside graded repertoire for variation and diversity in learning. Establishing a firm basic technique enables students to have the tools they require to make progress and enjoy music. This will be built on throughout.
Encouraging independent learning is intrinsic to my teaching style- whether this is listening to music, self-evaluation or research outside of lesson to further their education. Most of all, I want to impart my knowledge, build a good rapport with the students and give enjoyment to the students I teach.
