Personal Description:
I teach for formal study or just for pleasure. 1:1 in Lancashire and Online to the World.
I'm particularly interested in 'local' music. i.e. traditional music from Northwest England.
I lead the Palatine Fiddlers, a community group workshop that meets weekly in term times. We are currently meeting on-line to comply with Covid regulations but hope to meet face to face again in May.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching violin/fiddle since graduating in 2007 and have knowledge of many musical genres but I specialise in folk & traditional music.
I have experience teaching all ages and abilities. either 1:1, in groups and workshops, on-line, in schools and the community and I'm DBS checked.
I teach folk & traditional music using a wide ranging repertoire and styles from the UK and Ireland but I'm equally at home with music from North America, Western Europe including Scandinavia and Australia.
Tutoring Approach:
Lessons with me can be a great introduction to traditional fiddle music for those who already play the violin but who have a desire to explore or gain a greater understanding of why traditional music is growing fast in popularity.
Or, if you used to play violin, perhaps as a child, here’s the opportunity to re-kindle that experience but with a refreshing, indigenous and infectious repertoire.
When learning for pleasure I often teach by ear or with notation as an aid memoire, so the ability to read music is not critical.
For formal study I follow the grading system of ABRSM and Trinity College (for Scottish Traditional Fiddle) with local assessment.
I teach primarily at my home either 1:1 or online using Skype but I am also willing to travel a reasonable distance for £0.45 per mile.
Bring a friend or partner with you for the same price. I offer a discount for block bookings.
