Personal Description:

I have been teaching the violin professionally (and latterly viola) for the past 15 years in Lincolnshire in many different schools and also privately. I have been playing the violin in many different orchestras and ensembles for over 30 years in an amateur, semi-professional and professional capacity.

I am now living in the North of Norwich and offering 1:1 tuition. I love a wide variety of different musical genres including classical, film, jazz influence and musical theatre.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught school-age children in a wide variety of primary, secondary, private and independent schools, from ages 5 - 18, 1:1, in small groups and ensembles and from my home. I have also taught adult returners wishing to learn on a more casual basis or pick up again to work towards a music exam. I play piano and can accompany on piano for students in lessons and those taking exams up to Grade 5.

Tutoring Approach:

I am person-centred in my approach to teaching, with an awareness of individual learning styles and personalities. I encourage learning to read notation to develop theoretical and practical knowledge, and also practising aural skills to develop intonation on a stringed instrument. Lessons provide a spring-board for a commitment to practising in-between lessons as the ultimate way to build up skills to become more proficient and become the music. I advocate the learning of an instrument to be fun and an enjoyable experience so I am always looking at ways to keep music live and alive.
