Personal Description:

I am a highly motivated and enthusiastic piano teacher committed to providing students with the highest quality of teaching, a desire to inspire the next generation of musicians, and always aiming to bring the best out of each student.

I undertook a Bachelors (BMus) at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, followed by a Masters (MMus) at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Here I took lessons with Mark Bebbington and Julian Jacobson, the later also teaches at the Royal College of Music. I played in numerous concerts, recitals and competitions. I also attended and/or played in masterclasses given by renown artists such as Angela Hewitt, Imogen Cooper, Stephen Hough, the Labéque sisters, Freddy Kempf, Steven Kovacevich, Roman Rabinovic, Peter Donahoe and many more.

Tutoring Experience:

Since graduating from my master's at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in June 2019, I have been teaching full time privately and at the Eralys Fernandez Teaching Academy. I prepare students for exams through numerous awarding bodies. Students are also prepared for concerts, festivals, competitions and auditions.

Before teaching piano full time, I gave lessons while in college and higher education. I also took teaching modules with one being the equivalent of an ABRSM teaching Diploma. Others involved going to schools to observe and teach one to one and group lessons.

Besides piano teaching, I give music theory lessons for students in preparation for ABRSM Grade 5 Theory Exams. For those who are not taking theory exams, I still incorporate some theory into their lessons as it further develops an understanding of what they are playing and their general musicianship.

Alongside piano and theory lessons, I also do some accompanying for grade exams. Some being piano students of mine who play a second instrument.

I have taught students of all age ranges and abilities. Some being complete beginners, others are taking their studies beyond Grade 8 and are working towards a Diploma. I have also helped students prepare for auditions for specialist music schools and/or courses.

Tutoring Approach:

As a teacher, I am first and foremost very supportive and positive towards my students. It is important that my students are enjoying their studies while also progressing. I will be firm when needed but always fair. Every individual is different and responds better to certain ways of teaching, therefore I am very creative and flexible in my teaching methods. At the end of it, results will be seen, and have done so with all my students passing exams with the overwhelming majority achieving top marks.

Furthermore, it is extremely important to be motivating and make sure students not only attend lessons but practice. This is something I excel in, and it shows through an extremely positive exam record and progress rates of my students. Some starting as complete beginners and working their way up to the higher grades in just a few years.

Although it is good to show results, I want my students to take skills learnt and apply it to other aspects of life. Skills such as time management, organisation and discipline through practicing piano for example.

Lessons are tailored to each individual pupil, whether you are just wanting to learn for pleasure or go down the route of graded exams and/or more. I aim to not only teach one to be able to play piano, but to develop as an all-round musician.

Most of my teaching is done at my home, however I can travel if needed (depending on distance and scheduling). Online lessons are also an option should either of the above not be viable.
