Personal Description:
I am an experienced and qualified (PGCE and QTS) music and music technology teacher based in North Yorkshire. As well as a PGCE in Secondary Music gained from the University of Sussex, I have а first-class degree (BA hons) and master’s degree (MA) in Sound Arts and Design. Alongside teaching and tutoring I am a freelance composer and sound engineer.
I provide tuition in the following areas:
1. Academic Music and Music Technology – KS3, GCSE and A-Level/BTec – including the following exam boards; Edexcel, AQA, OCR, Educas and RSL Music Practitioners;
2. Composition and music theory;
3. General music production skills – including the use of most commercial DAW’s (Logic Pro X, Ableton, Pro Tools, etc.).
Specialist subjects:
1. Recording – microphone theory;
2. Post-production – mixing and mastering;
3. DAW usage – MIDI and sequencing;
4. Sound design – sampling and synthesis;
5. Recording technology history and digital recording theory;
6. Developing evaluative and essay-writing skills in the music technology specialism.
Tutoring Experience:
• 1st Class Degree in Sound Arts and Design – University of the Arts, London;
• Master’s Degree in Fine Arts – University of Brighton;
• PGCE and QTS in Secondary Music – University of Sussex;
• 4 years’ experience teaching A-Level Music Technology (Edexcel).
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching methodology is based on sound pedagogy gained through teacher training (PGCE) and continuous professional development whilst employed as an A-Level music technology teacher. I teach practically and methodically, with theory embedded in the practice of music making and production. I am organised and maintain high expectation that come from industry experience. Not only do I teach music and music technology skills, I teach professionalism and independence. Having taught a number of exam specifications (edexcel, OCR, AQA, RSL Music Practitioner) I am well versed in preparing students for their exams, by teaching secure exam techniques to enable students of all ability succeed.
