Personal Description:

I am a violinist/violist who is lucky enough to do these things for a living. I live in Stockbridge, Edinburgh and was a teacher in a music school in the East of Iceland prior to this. I am classically trained but have also had a keen interest in world music, largely in part to growing up in the highlands. I have a particular interest in strings pedagogy and am always refining my teaching to ensure that I can give my pupils the best, as this is what they deserve!

I am performer of considerable experience and have been a regular fixture with many theatre companies as a musician in the orchestra pit. I enjoyed a busy performing life in Iceland too, mainly in a symphony orchestra.

Tutoring Experience:

I began instrumental teaching for the local council while I was at university and I have worked full time in council music services since then. I have also taught privately for many years and various pupils went on to gain places in youth orchestras, specialist music schools, achieve excellent SQA/ABRSM results, and university places for music. I have also taught at college level, where I prepared violin students for their degrees. I now teach full time in schools in Fife after returning from teaching and living in Reyðarfjörður in the east of Iceland. I had a wonderful chapter of my life there and I taught violin, viola, cello and piano, as well as music theory.

Tutoring Approach:

I approach my teaching with unrelenting enthusiasm. I want to equip with you excellent technique and an addiction to your own progress. I am incredibly friendly and warm and I can help even young children grasp the mechanics of the violin with the foundations for a lifelong enjoyment of playing.
