Personal Description:

For 10 years I've played professionally with Tiger Lillies, Michael Rosen, Hot Swing Boheme, Pete Maas, Psychoyogi and more. Effective communication and structured, interactive lessons are key.

Before achieving my 2:1 Bachelor's Honours degree at DrumTech/London College of Music, I was an actor and self-taught drummer. But I've also worked as a singer and done sessions as a guitarist, keyboardist and bassist in some contexts, and the connection between drumming and these areas is huge. I learned my musical voice primarily from listening, experimentation, composition and perspiration. Dancing has helped me discover it too.

My latest DBS equivalent is the ACRO international criminal record check. I also have years of experience in special needs education, student support in a range of classrooms across universities and schools.

Tutoring Experience:

I've taught drums and some guitar since 2011, except when I was on tour for 5 years, including work at North London Music Centre in Enfield and Trinity at Bowes Church in Palmers Green. As well as drums tuition I have taught music theory and music technology with Southover Partnership.

I have trained students who went on to complete the grades they wanted, others that do professional work, and even those who went on to learn other instruments. In my decade of tutoring, I've also experience with learning difficulties as an amanuensis in universities across London, tutoring excluded students in north London, and working in formal classroom settings as a teaching assistant. I've completed training in supporting students with dyslexia and related difficulties, and continue to train in keyboard, harmony and composition.

Tutoring Approach:

These days I'm usually teaching in person at the fully equipped and spacious Hicaz Studio in Stoke Newington, London. But in my home studio in north London we can have lessons on video with the flexibility to get it all working. In my music room I can run Zoom, Skype or any software, with pro-audio input and output, which means we will hear each other at studio quality. Crucially, my internet in there is LAN internet, meaning it is connected via cable. There is plenty of light as well.

Playing well and teaching are two different things. I love to study and learn from what challenges each student brings to the session. For example one student is currently developing his double bass drum pedal techniques. We each have a unique musical way, and that is why we learn the techniques to draw from, rather than conforming to a type.

I want you to be motivated to teach yourself as I did. The most well-being I get from music is singing, which I have done since I was young, and since then have also sang lead vocals and backing vocals professionally with Tiger Lillies and Nathan Futo, Burford Society and in my own songs. I'm interested in the work of Alise Ojay.

My Youtube channel has talks on Music and Well-Being in my life, as part of Musictober for youth charity Music Relief (**Web Address Removed**). My students are exposed to other essential skills and avenues within the music business such as a second instrument, music production, composition, arranging, backing vocals and instrument maintenance and tuning, etc.
