Personal Description:

I have 10 years experience tutoring drums to children and adults of varying abilities, including students with SEND. I have a 100% pass rate for my students who have undertaken graded examinations with Rockschool and Trinity Guildhall. I am employed as a drum tutor by Cheshire West & Chester’s official music service partner and in addition to teaching drums I work as a professional musician. People learn in different ways and I take pride in using different teaching techniques with different students to ensure that interest in the instrument is maintained in addition to progress being made. I have received highly positive feedback from students and parents alike.

I am fully DBS checked and have received extensive safeguarding training.

Over the last 10 years I have performed as a drummer on tour with bands supporting artists such as The Zutons, Crowded House, The Lightning Seeds and many other well-known names. Highlights from my performing career includes singles I have performed on being played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, as well as radio play throughout Europe and USA.

I studied drums and Latin percussion with world renowned drummer Dave Hassell while studying for my degree in Popular Music & Recording BA (Hons) in which I graduated with a 2:1.

Tutoring Experience:

Northwich Drum Studio is a new music school for children and adults. We specialise in rock & pop drum tuition and our students enjoy the best quality tuition provided by our educators who are both professional drummers and experienced teachers. We tutor drums on a one-to-one basis only which means your drum lessons are tailored to you.

Our commitment to quality means 100% of our students who have sat graded examinations with Rockschool and Trinity Guildhall have passed (mostly with Merit & Distinction) and students who have taken GCSE Music have all achieved final A*-B grades.

Our approach means we don’t just simply show you how to play drums, we produce rounded musicians. Whether you’re interested in learning drums for fun, want to play in a band, or if you want to study music academically, our tuition can help you get to wherever you want to go.

Founded by John , Northwich Drum Studio opened in October 2015 and is built upon John’s 10 successful years experience working as a drum tutor.

Tutoring Approach:

Here are two testimonials regarding my drum tuition:

“We can highly recommend John’s patient and enthusiastic tuition. Our daughter always enjoyed her lessons. Using contemporary hits and classic tracks John gave her a music education that went beyond learning basic drum techniques. We would often find her rifling through our record collection, recognising songs and playing along to some of our favourites. John always kept us up to date with her progress and provided regular newsletters and was always available to speak to in person or by email.”

Tracey Toddhunter, whose daughter had lessons with John until going to University.

“Mr entered several students for the Grade Drum Kit exams held by Trinity Guildhall College in June 2007. His students were all very well prepared for their exams. Mr came to the exam with them to give them encouragement and support and it was evident that he had a very good relationship with his pupils. The results achieved were without exception excellent; one pupil achieved one of the highest marks in the history of Drum Kit exams. I look forward to meeting his pupils again at future exams”
