Personal Description:

I have always had a passion for music, and I bring that to all of my lessons. Whatever your motivation for having lessons, I am committed to helping you achieve your goals, learn things you didn’t think you could, and to find joy making music! I always aim to put students at ease, and to encourage and support their musical journey.

After achieving a BMus (Hons) degree from the University of Glasgow, I went on to study vocal performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (PGDip) and the Royal Northern College of Music (MMus). Alongside my extensive vocal training, I received private piano training, early years musicianship training, and began to gain experience in teaching.

I have now been teaching for over 18 years, and have built an excellent reputation as a singing, piano and music theory teacher in South East England. In my lessons, I also bring my experience as a professional classical singer, which I think is really important to inspire and advise my students.

I have recently relocated to Newton Mearns, and am taking on new private students here. If you would like to improve your singing, learn to play the piano, or brush up on your music theory, I’d be delighted to work with you!

Tutoring Experience:

After training at some of the UK’s leading music conservatoires, I have spent the last 18+ years building a thriving music teaching practice in London and Winchester, alongside my work as a professional classical singer.

I have experience in delivering early years music classes, and have received training in the Kodaly method. I have also attended several ABRSM teaching seminars.

During my time living in London, I taught at a private music school, and also for Waltham Forest Music Service. I went in to several primary and secondary schools, to deliver singing and piano lessons to the students, and to help prepare them for their music GCSE and A levels.

I welcome all ages and abilities, and have worked with children as young as 4, through to adults in their 80s!

I am a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, and have a PVG Disclosure, as well as all relevant insurance.

If you’re interested in taking exams, I have many years of experience teaching ABRSM, Trinity, LCM and MTB syllabuses.

I have prepared students for auditions and performances, and am available for coaching sessions. Several of my students have gone on to study music at music conservatories and universities, and pursue a career in the arts.

Many of my students come just to have fun, and to learn something new, which is such a joy!

Whatever your motivation, I can’t wait to hear from you.

Tutoring Approach:

It is my aim to make every student feel at ease in our lessons. I have the very privileged job of sharing music with people, and am aware how personal that can be for some to share. My lessons are a safe space to learn, and to be inspired to make music.

I love that every lesson I teach is different! Working with children, teenagers and adults means I am constantly adapting my teaching to suit the individual needs of that student.

For younger children, I tend to incorporate games and activities to develop rhythmic skill and musicianship. I like to encourage all my students to perform for each other, and host informal events throughout the year to give them opportunities to share what they have been working on. There is never any pressure to perform, but the opportunity is there!

I bring my experiences as a professional classical singer to our lessons, and believe it gives me a unique perspective to help with performance techniques and how to manage anxiety.

I offer a free consultation lesson before you commit to any lessons, so come and give it a try!
