Information About Jessica - Hindhead teacher

Personal Description:

My main purpose is to instil the same love of music in my students as I was fortunate to develop. I began playing the flute at a young age, and at ten was awarded a scholarship to study at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester with the Danish flautist Gitte Sorenson, and with Sue Bethany on piano. Following this, I studied for a BMus degree at Trinity College of Music in London, with Karen Jones and Ann Cherry. I perform regularly, both in recital settings, and with chamber ensembles and local groups. I joined Kingston Philharmonic in 2018.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching for over twenty years, and now teach both privately, at King Edwards School, Witley, and at Bentley Primary School. I have extensive experience of helping students to prepare for important performances, such as GCSE/A-level performance assessments, and music college/university auditions. An experienced CRB checked pianist is available for these sessions, and if necessary, recordings can be arranged.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach in a friendly clear manner, and aim to help each student fulfill their full potential. In addition, I believe very strongly that environment is very important when learning an instrument. Children in particular often learn much faster when they learn in familiar surroundings. Most private individual lessons I teach will take place in the students' own home. A quiet, well-lit room away from interruptions is essential for this, not only for lessons, but also to ensure adequate practicing facilities are available. Parents may sit in on lessons if they wish, although this may make some children uncomfortable.
