Personal Description:

Jerry is a committed and enthusiastic pianist, piano teacher, accompanist, and chamber musician.
2021 highlights include being a Finalist of the Donohoe Gold Medal in 2021, and a video concert produced by Meridian Records. He performed in Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Egham Parish Church, St Jude Church, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and Hong Kong Art Centre. He is also a prizewinner from the University of London Concerto Competition and Hong Kong Youth Competition. He attained advanced sight-reading skills accompanying undergraduates and postgraduates for concerts, masterclasses, and courses at Royal Holloway and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. He was also invited to work with Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra, North Point Festival Orchestra, Royal Birmingham Conservatoire vocal department (Robin Bowman) and string department (Robin Ireland). Meanwhile, he was the founding member of several chamber music ensembles such as Holloway Piano Quartet, Holloway Contemporary Flute Duo and St Louis Music Salon.

His significant experience of piano coaching at all ages from beginners, ABRSM, Trinity to conservatoire level can provide quality teaching towards some performing calendar.

Tutoring Approach:

His teaching philosophy is to inspire musical possibilities with students. Playing music is always about critical listening. In coaching, he focuses on developing students’ musicality as much as technical exercises. He also encourage his students to use technology (recording themselves playing, using metronome) in practice, and listen to different recordings online in order to get inspired musically.
