Personal Description:
Highly experienced in piano and music education. Held the post of Executive Director of Rockschool for 12 years. I developed several syllabuses to help the company become the leading contemporary music exam board. I am very experienced on what is required to pass examinations at all levels. Prior to this I worked as an examiner for Trinity and was responsible for developing their highly successful electronic keyboard syllabus. Recently I have led on the development of the new music GCSE, AS and A levels for AQA and Pearson and therefore have indepth knowledge of these exams. I have also held the post of Head of Keyboard at several schools as well as teaching privately. I also give regular workshops both nationally and internationally.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught piano and keyboard for 40 years in public and state schools as well as privately. I hold a number of diplomas and degrees for both classical and contemporary music and have performed extensively both in the UK and internationally. I have had high profile teachers including Louis Kentner Susan Bradshaw and Kendall Taylor and have absorbed wide and varied teaching methods which I have adapted and applied to my own teaching.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe in giving lessons focus, whether the lesson be casual or working towards an examination. I always teach with the following in mind. When a student leaves the room, what will they say they have learnt to their parents or friends? This may be something small but vital or it may be a eureka moment but either is just as important. I like lessons to be varied and not always follow a predictable path. This may include varying technical work or introducing different aural experiences.

I have achieved so much more than I could have imagined during just a few months of lessons and could not be happier - it’s restored my passion for music and just spurred me on to keep it up once I’m back to work, so I can share what I’ve learnt with my daughter.
Thank you, Jeremy - you’re truly amazing and we’ll definitely be seeing you again in a few years time when B is ready for you… ! :)
Excellent teaching technique. Tailored lessons to where I was at and how quickly I progressed.
