Personal Description:

“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and life to everything.” – Plato

Learning music and learning the guitar is one of the most fun, rewarding things that anyone can do. From first time guitarists right up to those with years of experience, learning music and the guitar can bring joy and a sense of accomplishment that makes the work put into it very worthwhile.

I am a guitarist and composer from Toronto, Canada who now lives in Leeds. I have both my Bachelor and Masters of Music and I have been teaching and performing live music for over 20 years.

From solo guitar to duos, trios, quartets all the way to big bands. I teach and perform jazz, rock, blues and pop music, and play in many different venues throughout the North of England.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 20 years of teaching experience in many different settings – from priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons, one to one lessons, full classroom teaching, and master classes.

I teach all ages, all levels, and all styles and types of guitar; my specialities are jazz, blues, rock and pop.

I am musically literate and have been studying music for a long time. I have my Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees. I am currently a peripatetic guitar teacher throughout West and North Yorkshire.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning a new instrument can seem like an overwhelming task; I take the mystery out of learning guitar and get my students playing right away. I make sure my pupils enjoy the learning process by using material and songs that they like to play.

For beginners, this means playing parts of songs and tunes they're familiar with. For more experienced learners, this means taking a close look at the music they like and understanding how it works and how to play it properly.

We cover guitar chords, scales, lead and rhythm playing, chord progressions, and techniques like how to pick and strum your guitar. For more advanced pupils, we talk about playing lead licks and riffs, guitar effects and amplifiers, music harmony and rhythmic ideas.

I practice what I preach. I regularly use the same material I’m teaching others – either in the practice room or when performing on stage.

My only agenda is to make sure you get what you want out of our lessons and enjoy the process. I get a lot out of watching students develop their skills and seeing the joy they have playing.
