Personal Description:

I am a an experienced flute teacher with a great passion for music. My professional performing experience ranges from classical ensemble to folk music, and I also have a good deal of experience as a recording artist.
I began learning the flute at the Elgar School of Music in Worcester and went on to study at the University of Worcester and Trinity Laban.I completed my teacher training at the University of Birmingham.
As a teacher I believe in designing my lessons specifically for the student, in order to develop technique and musicality. I will give you tasks to complete in between lessons and help you learn how to both monitor and assess your own progress.
I will help you to improve your posture and breathing techniques, and, we will have fun playing duets together.
Whether you are a classical player working towards exams, or a beginner just having fun, I will enjoy sharing my love of playing with you. I teach the classical Trinity and ABRSM syllabus to grade 8 and music theory to grade 5. I enjoy playing a wide range of the classical repertoire, and I can help you to develop an effective routine for improving technique.
Playing the flute is fun, so whatever level you are at come along and see how you can improve.
Finally I hold an up to date DBS certificate.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 15 years experience of teaching in schools and privately, working with small groups, ensembles and solo players. I coach my students for exams, performance and above all to get the very best out of their practice and playing. I have an excellent track record in examination results.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons are planned to suit the individual learning style of the student. You will be encouraged to keep a record of what you have learned and what you need to practice before the next lesson. I am thorough in terms of teaching technique and helping my students to enjoy playing scales and exercises, and I encourage a wide range of repertoire from classical to folk. A strong influence has always been Sir James Galway who can play a folk tune like a wizard and Faure like a dream!
