Personal Description:

I am a bass player and multi-instrumentalist, I have played music all my life, now with nearly 15 years of varied professional experience, mostly as a bassman. I am a band leader, composer, writer, singer, oud player, guitarist, recording artist, human being and teacher.

At 19 years old, I was offered a half tuition-fee scholarship for Berklee College for jazz bass, however by this time I had moved to London from my Devonshire homeland and found myself playing with great musicians mostly in the jazz, experimental, hiphop, neo-soul, improvisational worlds. In parallel I began playing bass for some master musicians from West Africa and Congo… later still with many great artists from Balkans, Greece and Turkey. So I decided to take my education from experience as opposed to institution, and I feel through doing so I have served the music well and in return it has served me.

You can search my most recent album as band leader **Removed By Admin** and hear some of my electric bass playing and composition there.

Some familiar sounding things I have played at include : Glastonbury 2019, Chicago Pitchfork fest, London Jazz Festival (a few times), BBC radio and TV, Turkish TV, Iranian TV, many European tours, Village Underground, Ronnie Scotts, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg…

Tutoring Experience:

I have formally taught private 1 to 1 lessons on bass guitar and double bass for around 5 years. Casually I am always sharing and imparting knowledge!

Tutoring Approach:

I like to tailor an approach to each student who I teach which works with their musical interests and natural learning tendencies. I tend to be more focussed on getting my students to play by ear and making music, rather than focussing too much on theory and robotic excercises, although for many things theory is sooner or later unavoidable, don't be put off by that!

I like the student to choose if they prefer to follow a curriculum of grades etc or not, I also like it when a student knows what they want to play and it is all about learning what is necessary to make that music happen!
