Personal Description:
Hello, my name is James and I am a fully qualified teacher and musician with over 20 years teaching experience. I have a BA Honours Degree from Exeter University, a PGCE in Primary Education from the University of St Mark and St John, and a vast experience of teaching music to all ages and abilities. My love for music started at a very early age and has been an integral part of my life. I've loved playing music with others and I've played in a variety of bands, recorded music and had so much fun in various jam sessions over the years!
Tutoring Experience:
Folk music is my passion, and from an early love of playing guitar, I gravitated into playing a number of stringed folk instruments and absolutely love teaching others whatever the level. I teach guitar, mandolin, mandola, bouzouki and 4-stringed (tenor) banjo; commonly referred to as the Irish banjo. I've taught students of all ages; children , teenagers and adults. I've also taught students in school settings too (Primary and Secondary).
Tutoring Approach:
I'm an experienced music teacher and can teach you a wide range of styles and genres. Whether you are a beginner, experienced on an instrument or a complete novice, I am sure I can help you in the direction you want to go with the instrument. If you fancy having a go at another stringed instrument, you are welcome to try out the range of instruments I have and perhaps one will find you: let the adventure begin! My focus is on helping students develop their skills and play their chosen genre of music in a fun and relaxed way.
