Information About Jacob - Deal teacher

Personal Description:

I am a jazz musician with over 12 years of performing and composing experience. I obtained a diploma in Jazz piano at the Royal Academy of Music between 2019-2022, during which time I was enrolled there as an undergraduate on the BMus Jazz course before leaving to pursue an academic degree at Cambridge. Music is my absolute passion, and jazz is my specialism. I have a particular affinity to classic jazz, including bebop and hard bop, but am very willing to let the student guide lessons.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught students at various points over the years, informally and formally, mainly to students with a reasonably advanced grasp of harmony. I am very willing to teach at all levels though.

Tutoring Approach:

The student must love the music they want to play. This is essential - students cannot be forced into this. I can teach theory, practical methods, jazz standards, how to solo, harmony, composition, how to comp over tunes, how to play in a band, how to play on your own, how to get gigs, how to make a career out of music, how to nail conservatoire auditions, how to network, even how to teach! Ultimately, I would like to teach you how to be the best jazz musician you possibly can be. Jazz is an unbelievably beautiful art form and, however into it you are - whether you’re really new to it or totally in love with it already - I want to take you further into it and show you some stuff I think you’ll love!
