Personal Description:

Jack is a passionate trumpet teacher and believes that the process of learning an instrument can be transformative, both for the body and soul. He tailors his lessons to the needs of each student. Whether you're completely new to the trumpet, picking it up after a few years off, wanting to improve your technique or musicianship, or join a band, you'll be able to benefit from lessons with him.

Tutoring Experience:

Jack has taught privately for the best part of six years, mostly to adults though occasionally to children. In Brighton he taught lessons out of Under the Bridge Studios, where he also accompanied children's Kodály music classes. He has taught students to musical grades where appropriate, and inspired them to continue their playing in other settings including bands and orchestras.

Tutoring Approach:

You can expect enjoyable, engaging and intuitive lessons. Jack believes in the importance of good tone production of the instrument, which in turn requires developing a keen musical ear, so there'll be plenty of work on listening and technique.

At the same time we'll spend time reading sheet music and be directed to resources to study where required, so that we can discover the rich variety of music available for the trumpet. You'll find music that you enjoy, whether solo, accompanied on the piano or a CD or in trumpet duets, and with practice you'll learn how to play with ease.
