Personal Description:
Hi,
I am a professional musician with a degree in Ethnomusicology, specialising in Klezmer, Balkan and other traditional folk styles. My main instrument is Clarinet and I perform in a Balkan band called Opa Rosa and regularly play in sessions and lead music workshops around the city.
I am also passionate about many different styles of music from around the world and teach Indonesian percussion music (Gamelan). I am a multi-instrumentalist and can also play Mbira (from Zimbabwe), Hang drum, Harp and Piano.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching private music lessons for over 10 years, from complete beginner through to intermediate. I particularly like working with adult students who are either returning to clarinet after having played when they were younger, musicians who are taking on a new instrument, or complete beginners who are approaching music perhaps for the first time.
Tutoring Approach:
I have a dynamic and engaging approach to teaching and want my students to enjoy playing and practising as much as possible. I will tailor each lesson to suit the needs of the student. I have a wide repertoire of interesting and fun pieces for all levels, and am open to suggestions from the student. I also like to work on improvisation and composition if the student is interested.
