Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Iona and I have been playing the violin for 17 years. I began at the age of 4 studying at home in Scotland and at the age of 11, I went to study at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester where I studied for 6 years. I have now graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with a First Class Honours and I am now studying for my Masters degree, also at the Royal Academy.
I am a member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and have toured all over Europe with them. I play in orchestra regularly in and outside of the Academy, and also love playing chamber music.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching 2 and a half years in London, with experience working with students ranging from age 3-48 and with complete beginners to Grade 8 plus.
I have a 100% pass rate for ABRSM exams with my students.
I am also an ambassador with the Benedetti Foundation (run by violinist Nicola Benedetti) and have been doing workshops and more recently online 'mini sessions' with children of all ages and levels from all over the world, over the past year.

Tutoring Approach:

I am so passionate about making music enjoyable and accessible to everybody. No matter your standard or musical background, I want my students to love playing their instrument and enjoy making music. I know that every student is different, with different needs and goals. I make sure my students cover the fundamentals (technique, studies, music theory) in order for them to grow and improve in the long-term, and equip them as best I can for their musical encounters in the future.
