Personal Description:

I am a professional musician with 29 years experience. I have a BA Music in Jazz Bass from Middlesex University and a Masters in Music Jazz Bass from Guildhall School of Music and Drama. I am a multi genre bass player/double bass player that has played a multitude of shows from packed out arenas to intimate settings. I am very passionate about what I do and very light hearted that I would teach any one who wants to get into or wanting to know specific areas of music and the bass. Personally, I think music is very essential for a healthy society, everyone should have the opportunity to get involved in the process of music making. Studies have shown the benefits of playing a musical instrument. During such activities, the visual, auditory, motor, logic and creative areas of the brain become fully engaged. This improves the functions of the brain by establishing complex connections between neurons and increasing connectivity between the left and right hemispheres. This in turn, would enhance an individual's ability to better deal with other areas of life. Here is a TedEd link to explain in detail.

Tutoring Experience:

I am mostly self taught, which is an added bonus because with that discipline, I have learnt to look for areas of improvement. I have also had teachers along the way who would point out areas I'd miss and going to Middlesex's University and Guildhall School of Music and Drama music program greatly enriched my self-tutoriship approach with the wealth of knowledge aquired. The essence of a teacher is basically to show us the door/doors that need opening.

Over the years, I have had students who were absolute beginners looking to start playing the bass guitar/double bass and others who were advanced and had played a myriad of gigs but were looking for help to push their playing to the next level.

Tutoring Approach:

I’d like to know what the student wants to achieve. My approach is empathetic and would involve working from the students current musical understanding. With the beginner, it might involve playing a song with or without applicable techniques or music knowledge. With the intermediate/advanced student, it might be resolving problem areas for them etc which would propel them forward.
