Personal Description:

I am a professional musician with 25 years of experience who just finished a BA Music Jazz from Middlesex university. A multi genre bass player/double bass player that has been in a multitude of settings from packed out arenas to intimate settings. I am very passionate about what I do, I am very light hearted and would teach any one who wants to get into music or wanting to know more about specific areas in music. Personally, I think music is very essential to society as a whole, everyone and anyone should have the opportunity to get involved in the process of music making. Scientific studies have shown the benefits of such activities like playing a musical instrument e.g. Technically speaking, during such activities, the visual, auditory, motor, logic and creative centres of the brain become fully engaged in the process. This improves brain function by increasing connectivity between both hemispheres of the brain. This in turn, would enhance an individual's ability to deal with life in general when it comes to other areas of society.

Tutoring Experience:

I am mostly self taught, which is an added bonus because I have learnt how to teach myself by looking for areas of improvement and with discipline, I take my abilities to the next level quickly. But despite this, I have had a few teachers along the way that do point out areas I'd miss. Ultimately, going to music school greatly enriched my self-tutor approach with the wealth of knowledge I acquired from the teachers at TUT Pretoria South Africa and just recently Middlesex University. This has opened up doors I was unaware of. I would say this is the essence of a teacher, to show us the door/doors that need opening.
Over the years, I have had children to adult students who were absolute beginners looking to get into music or start playing the bass guitar and others who were advanced and had played a myriad of gigs but were looking for help to push their playing to the next level.

Tutoring Approach:

Iā€™d like to know what the student wants to achieve. My approach is empathetic and would involve working from the students current understanding of music. With the beginner, it might involve playing songs then a bit applicable music knowledge based on the song that has been learnt. With the advanced student, it might be resolving problem areas for them.
