Personal Description:

I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher of all modern styles of guitar playing. As a practicing musician I have mainly played in rock bands but currently find myself highly motivated by advanced polyrhythmic harmonies!
I have a passion for philosophy, including the philosophy of music, and enjoy interaction with students of all levels. I have many students that have become lifetime friends and am very grateful for what they have taught me!
I have also spent a considerable time as a single parent and so understand the trials and tribulations both of the younger learner and of their parents!
I currently teach in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk but will soon be available for private tuition in the Norwich and Wymondham areas. If this is not convenient I may otherwise be able to offer distance learning opportunities.

Tutoring Experience:

I am an RGT registered guitar tutor and have been teaching fully professionally for more than 25 years. I founded the 'Instructional Music Department' for distance tuition and within two years had received the Shell sponsored award for outstanding enterprise. I am classically trained with higher degrees in music and philosophy and am a member of the high IQ society Mensa. I have worked with top musicians, including Phil Collins and was presented to Prince Charles in recognition of my achievements.
Most of my teaching experience has been with private one-to-one tuition in my own home but I have also taught peripatetically at schools and have had fun working with many music workshops run by different organisations.

Tutoring Approach:

As a basic standing point all students will be taught good technique. Once that is ingrained there is no reason why full potential cannot be achieved. I then generally follow the London College of Music syllabus in modern guitar playing. (Unless it has been superseded, I hold the regional record for the most grade exam passes at a single sitting of the exam.) However, all students are individuals and will be treated as such. I will ensure that all students obtain the skills and knowledge to enjoy playing in whatever fashion they so choose! Many of my students have gone on to become guitar teachers themselves (including many NCC teachers) and so have progressed through the graded system. However, others simply want to learn rock songs, or want to write their own music.
I have excellent multitrack recording facilities and can also help coach full bands. I am happy to 'partner' students with a view to forming music groups and I also have my own performance projects reliant on student participation. Of course some students simply wish to learn to play for the very good reason of their own enjoyment and relaxation, and I currently offer an advanced course with a 'meditative' approach to playing. (This is related to my current research.)
I am happy to discuss specific requirements.
