Personal Description:
I am an established piano teacher who teaches mainly from home in Chichester.
I have 40 years experience of playing the piano and over a decade of teaching the piano. After passing Grade 8 Piano I went on to obtain my Dip.ABRSM in Piano Performance. I am passionate about the piano and its music.
My knowledge of the classical piano repertoire is extensive and I enjoy performing in local concerts and classical music festivals, as well as being involved with operatic groups and being in demand as a piano accompanist.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught many pupils over the years from age 6, up to and including adults, but I would normally advise a minimum age of 7 to have been reached before starting lessons.
The piano that I teach on is a superb Yamaha acoustic piano.
I can also give organ and harpsichord lessons, and offer accompaniment to classical singers and instrumentalists.
I have a 100% pass rate with all my pupils who have studied for their ABRSM piano exams. I believe some study of music theory is important, although it is optional.
Freshly brewed coffee or tea, and a comfortable sofa are provided for parents who attend, as well as adults learning the piano.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is to do so according to the ability of the pupil; gentle encouragement and an inspiring style are what motivates the pupil to reach their full potential.
Those having lessons should never forget the importance of regular daily practice between weekly lessons if they want to make proper progress.
As a guide to pupil age and lesson length, I would generally recommend the following lesson durations, although it is of course the parents', or individual's, choice:
30 minute lessons (£18) for children up to 9 years of age,
45 minute lessons (£27) for children aged 9 - 12, or adults who prefer a slightly shorter lesson.
60 minute lessons (£35) for ages 12 and over, and adults.

I have only had 2 lessons so far, but he made me feel at ease on our first meeting, as well as listening carefully to my requirements, and what I wanted from the lessons. I am looking forward to more learning.
