This is how 2 referees rated Helen:
I am a professional opera singer and musician and have performed roles at the major venues including English National Opera, Linbury Studio-Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and Garsington Opera, as well as appearances in ‘Phantom of the Opera’.
I have worked closely with and premiered works by several eminent British composers including Mark-Anthony Turnage, Judith Weir, Nigel Osborne, Paul Patterson, Colin Mathews and Tansy Davies.
I was awarded a bursary to study at the Britten-Pears Foundation Aldeburgh and was a semi-finalist in the International Opera Singers Competition in New York in 2000.
My book 'Singing Tips at your Fingertips' has been described by Gary Lachman (The Guardian) as "the place to find the singer within". I also write articles on singing for Huffington Post and occasionally appear on radio and TV, for example, BBC World News and The Paul O'Grady Show. I currently conduct Ella's Choir and Islington Council Choir and teach singing at the International School of London.
As a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music with over 20 years’ professional performing experience, I acquired an extensive knowledge of the voice and how to maximise its potential. I am passionate about sharing my expertise and helping individuals reach their singing goals.
My approach is adaptable and unique, enabling me to share a powerful set of vocal techniques which is about you being free and happy.
I teach children and adults whether preparing for an important exam, wanting to learn a new skill or simply learning to sing for fun and relaxation. In addition to teaching singing, I also teach piano and music theory (grades 1-8).
The ethos of my teaching is to share my expertise and experience in a fun, relaxed and creative environment. In addition to providing a secure and secure learning setting, other singing opportunities may arise where you can develop further. These include taking part in workshops, concerts and opera performances; in March 2017, I arranged for the UK premiere of The Juniper Tree by Philip Glass to take place in London. It was a fantastic opportunity not only for my students but also emerging professionals, local school children and members of the community to work together collaboratively in an exciting production.
