Personal Description:
My name is Harry James - I'm a classical pianist and teacher based in West London.
Currently, I teach around 60 student weekly, across west London and also at Aldwickbury Prep School in Hertfordshire.
I'm on the lookout to fill the last 4 weekly lesson slots that I have available! So, if you are looking for a piano teacher, please do reach out.
I have a first class degree in music performance, specializing in classical piano. I've recorded at Abbey road studios, and played in many ensemble and solo shows. I have a particular interest in romantic and impressionist piano music, but have also played jazz, rock, soul, baroque… and lots of other styles.
I try to make my lessons as engaging as possible, with a focus on building a solid relationship with each of my students. I make time to find out their personal goals and learning style, and tailor my teaching style appropriately.
Normally using the ABRSM exams as a framework, lessons focus on building fundamental skills in rhythm, pitch, reading notation and expression. Students are also taught the Feynman Method, the Socratic Method, Micro-practicing, and Spaced Repetition.
With these methods, students practice learning their own material, and eventually, need a teacher less and less.
The goal is for every student to be able to sit at a piano, and tackle learning some new music, without help.
