Personal Description:

Gillian is a professional singer and singing teacher living and working in Liverpool, and owner/teacher at Liverpool Singing Lessons.

Although she now specializes in vocal technique, as a singer she has a versatile voice, and has nearly 40 years’ experience, starting out as a teenager in pop, then onto rock, jazz, Irish folk then classical/musical theatre. Gillian has been a member of various bands, choirs, two opera companies and has performed in venues throughout Liverpool and the Northwest. Gillian now passes this valuable wealth of experience as a singer/performer on to her students at Liverpool Singing Lessons.

Gillian began studying music at the Liverpool Arts Centre, previously Greenbank. Whilst there Gillian studied voice, music history/genre, general musicianship, harmony, composition and music theory with Dr. Glyn Williams. Gillian progressed from one course to another until eventually leaving there with, amongst other qualifications, a HND (Distinction) in Performing Arts, which strengthens her understanding of musical theatre, the voice and the mind of the performer.

As well as completing workshops in Opera with the WNO, Gillian also had the privilege of studying composition with composers, Steve Martland at the RNCM and Steven Montague at the Liverpool Philharmonic.

Gillian then went on to study music at Liverpool Hope University. Here Gillian specialized in voice and performance with international Mezzo Soprano Vanessa Williamson. Gillian also continued studying harmony/composition, songwriting and performance with Professor Stephen Pratt and Tony Shorrocks, head of performance with The University of Liverpool. Gillian graduated from University with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Music. Since leaving University Gillian has continued on a path of personal development studying vocal pedagogy. All these skills are now taught at Liverpool Singing Lessons.

Gillian has eleven years’ experience working with children and choirs teaching peripatetically in schools throughout the Liverpool and Merseyside area and has a 100% pass record with students who have studied with the ABRSM graded vocal syllabus. Presently, at Liverpool Singing Lessons, she works with a diverse set of students including; primary aged children, eager amateur singers, performing arts students, band members and professional singers.

As well as teaching privately, at**Removed By Admin**, she is the singing teacher at music schools throughout Merseyside and holds a fully enhanced CRB certificate. Gillian is of a very warm, approachable, easy-going nature, which helps her get the best out of her students whether they are just enthusiastic beginners, a jobbing band member or a professional.

Tutoring Experience:

Gillian has 11 years experience teaching singing in schools both state and private throughout the Merseyside area, she also has nearly 40 years experience as a singer in which time she has explored many vocal genres.
Gillian teaches beginners through to advanced. You can learn for fun or follow the ABRSM syllabus for Classical Singing, LCM for Musical Theatre or Rock School for Rock and Pop. Gillian holds an up to date, fully enhanced DBS Certificate.

Tutoring Approach:

Gillian greatly accepts that your education is her responsibility. If a student is struggling to understand any aspect of their learning, Gillian will do her best to use a different approach, so no student would progress without fully understanding what has gone before.
Gillian is of a very warm, friendly nature so learning is conducted in a relaxed environment with a non-pressured teaching style.
Extra support sessions are also offered free of charge for upcoming examinations or auditions.
All lesson material ie, handouts, backing tracks, sheet music etc are provided free of charge.
