Personal Description:

As a professional musician I have been across the world experiencing everything from television, radio, recording sessions, big bands, theatre pits, function bands and just about anything else you can imagine. I’m also solely a bass player, I’m not a guitar player who also plays bass. The bass is my specialist subject and, in my experience not a lot of people seem to have that, or approach it without having properly invested the time in the instrument. I have studied music at both college and university. My degree is in Popular Music from Edinburgh Napier University (Scotland) where my specialist subjects was first study bass guitar. I have also been fortunate enough to study with renowned bass players such as Janet Gwizdala, Jeff Berlin, Sharay Reed and Anthony Wellington.

Tutoring Experience:

As a teacher I have taught privately for 10 years and currently teach students located not only in Glasgow but across the world. Outside of this I have also taught as an instrumental instructor in schools and in youth centres so I am able to prepare students for SQA and graded exams. I’ve got a wealth of teaching experience from the absolute beginner to more seasoned player, regardless of age group. I've had students pass exams with extremely high marks both in school and outwith it. Students have gotten accepted to places in college or university, started bands, joined bands and generally just enjoyed playing more.

Tutoring Approach:

The way I teach has to be different for every student and the rate I teach has to be different for each student. Everybody deserves to be treated equally and as an educator my responsibility is find the pace which allows you to develop the knowledge in the most secure way. I believe all musicians need the same information regardless of goals so if your goal is to simply play on your own I still give you the same treatment and information I give somebody who is aspiring to become a professional. All I ask is that you have a genuine desire to learn.
