Personal Description:
I studied music under one of New South Wales (Australia) top tutors as a child. (Brass Instruments) I have been playing guitar for 40+ years. I played professionally in Europe (Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia & Belgium) for several years.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching all ages (9yrs+) & abilities & various styles (Pop, Rock, Blues, Country Jazz etc) for several years in this area. I was previously teaching in London & West Midlands before moving to Europe to take up musical engagements. I have now been teaching in West Midlands since 2007.
Tutoring Approach:
I tailor lessons to individual requirements & musical taste. I do endeavour to make the lessons fun & interesting as well as informative. I am able to teach music theory & in fact like to incorporate this aspect into children's lessons as I feel it gives them a good foundation in music generally & is good preparation should they choose, at a later date, to take up an additional instrument. It's also helpful if they are already studying an instrument at school. I prefer to limit children's lessons to 1/2 hour (£14)
I teach lead & rhythm guitar using standard scales & patterns for lead & use popular songs for rhythm & chord learning. As well as teaching chord construction & the basic theory behind modern music styles I like to encourage musical creation & improvisation. To this effect I use pre-recorded backing tracks or I will tailor make a track for the student. I have found this to be very popular with students as it is quite fun & enables them to plot their own progress more effectively.
There is work involved in learning any instrument but I do like to emphasize the creative aspect as it can be very enjoyable.
I like to look at the styles of some of the guitar greats such as Gary Moore, Eric Clapton, Angus Young etc. & help the student to grasp the basic threads that are common to this style of playing while helping the student to develop their own unique style.

I have been having lessons for 2 months and I feel I have come on such a long way in a short period and now feel comfortable (as much as a newbie can be) moving around the guitar.
I would recommend Gary to a complete novice (like myself) or to anyone with experience as I feel Gary has a wealth of knowledge that anyone of any standard could learn from.
