Hello! My name is Garrie and I'm a professional tutor in the West of Scotland area serving areas such as South/North Lanarkshire, Glasgow, etc.
I am a Grade 8 musician and have played and studied the guitar, bass, keyboard and drums and produced music for about 20 years, and in that time have developed a wealth of experience playing a variety of genres and contexts that I'm eager to pass to those with an interest in picking up an instrument, or learning music theory or music production skills.
I specialise in popular music genres such as rock/metal (particularly progressive varieties), jazz, pop, funk, blues, etc.
Tutoring Experience:
I have worked as a teacher in many contexts over the past decade - from teaching engineering honours degree modules at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, supervising Masters degree research and private tutoring in Mathematics, Physics, Computing and Engineering-related SQA qualifications to secondary school and college students.

I have taught guitar, bass, drums and music production for about 5 years now My wealth of teaching experience prior to this means that my guitar students get access to the same high quality teachings methods as all students in other subjects.
Tutoring Approach:
Each individual student has different goals, and different needs. It is therefore my aim that tailor the material taught to the individual student, with them having a large say in the direction the tuition goes.
If you've never played guitar before, and just want to learn a few chords so you can jam along to your favourite tunes, I will develop a program of teaching to get you there. If you've been playing for a while, but your playing is stuck in a rut, and you want to expand your ability to improvise, play by ear, expand your knowledge of music theory and apply it better, then I can develop a program for all that too. If you want something laid back and casual, that's no problem, and if you want something highly structured working towards exams and qualifications like Rockschool, that's no problem either!

In addition to the face-to-face lesson, students also receive online access to a wealth of teaching materials including song sheets, sheet music, technical exercises, songwriting exercises, etc, all together with a program of learning that suits their needs.

His lessons have proved to be invaluable in my grandson's preparations to resit some of his units as he has increased his knowledge and helped him target his revision as well as elucidate areas he was finding difficult, showing him different methods to those taught at his university. He has a good working knowledge of the higher physics syllabus and was able to supplement her school lessons with extra teaching. He was always punctual and was able to accommodation her with extra sessions as the exam approached.

Garrie has helped me through a variety of university level mathematics including double integration, ordinary differential equations, systems of ordinary differential equations and laplace transforms among others. From Sv (/5): Mr Garrie is tutoring my son and provides help for his higher Physics exam this year. He is very knowledgable on the subject and with ease explains complex questions. On top of that he will teach you unseen tricks with the calculator and various other shortcuts, for example with equations, which can save loads of valuable time on the actual exam. Just by walking in the room he gave a beam of hope that even for a limited time you can prepare and be successful at the exam. Fabulous, thank you!

He is very precise. He's got everything planned in advance and everything gets covered at the end of the lesson.

From Helen (/5): I used Garrie for a couple of months before my son's Maths Standard Credit exam. He immediatey established a rapport with Charlie and they got on very well… Charrlie was sruggling when he met Garrie but by the time he went into his exam he was feeling a lot more confident. We don't have the result yet but whatever they are I will continue to use Garrie as I coild see how my son had improved in the time they worked together. I would have no hesitation in recommending Garrie to others.
